Abstract

The study was presented as an exhibition by the researcher held at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Alexandria in July 2014. The idea of the exhibition depends on creating an expressive vision for a religious story's illustrations with political dimensions and historical events in the form of an artist's book that includes a group of prints as separate pages. Moreover, an accompanying map contains the texts of the seventeen exodus events of Gog and Magog. The research problem is to prove the hypothesis that the illustrations executed by the expressive potentials of printmaking can document the events of religious stories with a historical vision. The researcher aims to diversity the design of the pages and their plastic structure by designing the story scenes on unusual geometric grids, revealing more of the aesthetic and functional characteristics of printmaking and how it relates to the traditions of graphic communication and storytelling, using the descriptive-analytical approach to discuss the artistic experiences. It is revealed that the black and white linocut technique has its presence and ingredients. The artist's awareness of the medium's nature allows him to exploit its potential, for both expression and documentation, which gives his prints a unique visual impact.
