Gaining a Competitive Advantage Through Green Human Resource Management Practices: The Case of Egyptian Hotels

Abstract

The topic of green human resources management is considered one of the modern topics. Applying green human resources management practices has become an important factor for hotels in order to achieve a culture of sustainability. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of green human resource management practices on achieving the competitive advantage in Egyptian hotels. The population of the study included total Certified Green Star hotels in Egypt, which are 158 hotels distributed in 17 destinations country-wide. The target population for this study included the human resource managers. In addition, the comprehensive survey was included due to the limited population. Questionnaires were used as a data collection tool. The total number of valid answered questionnaires reached 146 representing 92.40% of the distributed ones. SPSS-26 was used to analyze the collected data. Accordingly, the correlation and regression results of this study results agreed with only two variables that have a significant impact on the competitive advantage “green performance management and appraisal" and “green reward and compensation" and did not agree with the other variables about the relationship between green recruitment and selection, green training and development, and green employee empowerment and participation and the competitive advantage. Accordingly, the study provides human resource managers with many beneficial guidelines to possess a competitive advantage in order to protection environment.
