أشارت بعض الدراسات المحلية المرتبطة بالتنمية السياحية إلى أن أعمال التنمية السياحية في مناطق جبال الظهير الساحلي بمصر لا تتجاوز 10% من مساحتها الكلية. وقد صيغ هذا البحث بهدف تنمية السياحة في المناطق الجبلية الساحلية، والتي تُعتبر من أهم المناطق الغنية بالموارد الطبيعية والإمكانيات السياحية، التي يتعرض العديد منها للتهميش وسوء الاستغلال محليًا. وتمثل عملية اختيار الموقع السياحي أهم عوامل  تصميم أنشطة السياحة الجبلية، لما لها من ارتباط وثيق بالبيئة الجبلية وخصائصها التي تؤثر على نوعية هذه الأنشطة. الأمر الذي دعا إلى تناول هذه القضية بشيء من التفصيل حول إقامة أنشطة سياحية جبلية في مناطق الظهير الساحلي، لدعم وتعزيز أنشطة السياحة الساحلية والسياحات الأخرى.وقد اختلفت الآراء في منهجية وإجراءات وأدوات اختيار مواقع أنشطة السياحة الجبلية في مناطق الظهير الساحلي، إلا أنه وُجد أن توزيع هذه الأنشطة اعتمادًا على خصائص الموقع يمثل أكثر الطرق ملاءمة لتحقيق أقصى استفادة من الموارد المحلية بالموقع، مما يساهم في نجاح تشغيل هذه الأنشطة وبالتالي تحقيق التنمية السياحية.
ويتناول البحث المفاهيم الأساسية للسياحة الجبلية ومناطق الظهير الساحلي ومنهجية اختيار مواقع أنشطة السياحة الجبلية المقترح ممارستها، من خلال التحليل المقارن لبعض أنشطة السياحة الجبلية في مناطق الظهير الساحلي في جمهورية مصر العربية، واليونان، وإيطاليا وتركيا، والامارات وهي من الدول ذات الاهتمام بالسياحة الجبلية. وقد تم تقييم مدى توافق والتزام بعض أنشطة السياحة الجبلية القائمة في هذه الدول مع المفاهيم العامة لإقامة أنشطة السياحة الجبلية، خاصة في مجال اختيار الموقع. كما يهدف البحث إلى الخروج بتوصيات إرشادية مستخلصة من الممارسات التي طُبقت في تلك التجارب.
The research highlights that tourism development activities in Egypt's coastal mountain areas represent only 10% of their total area. This study aims to promote tourism in these coastal mountainous regions, which are rich in natural resources and tourism potential but often suffer from marginalization and poor utilization. The selection of suitable tourism sites is critical for designing mountain tourism activities due to their strong connection with the mountainous environment and its characteristics, which significantly impact activity types. Therefore, the study explores this issue in detail to support the establishment of mountain tourism activities in the coastal hinterlands, complementing other tourism types. Different methodologies, procedures, and tools for selecting mountain tourism sites have been examined. However, it was found that site-based activity distribution offers the most effective approach, maximizing the use of local resources and enhancing tourism development success.
The research addresses key concepts of mountain tourism, coastal hinterlands, and the proposed methodology for selecting tourism sites. It compares mountain tourism activities in Egypt, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and the UAE, countries known for their interest in mountain tourism. Additionally, the study evaluates the compliance of these countries' existing tourism activities with general site selection principles for mountain tourism. The findings aim to provide practical recommendations based on successful practices from these international experiences.
