The present study aims to analyse the techniques used for the translation of the expressions of cultural heritage in the novel of Aunt Safeyya and the Monastery which reflects the culture of Upper Egypt, written by the Egyptian, Bahaa Taher, translated by the half-palestinian, half-Spanish Laila Familiar, and to see how the translator was able to overcome the difficulties caused by cultural differences. These difficulties are caused by terms related to the expressions of cultural heritage, for example, their customs, traditions and social life, which sometimes have an equivalence and sometimes do not. The main objective of the work is to identify the problems involved in the translation of cultural expressions from Arabic into Spanish, to analyse the existing culturemas, the techniques and whether they have succeeded in conveying the meaning, in addition to looking for the degree of closeness or remoteness of the translation with respect to the original and target culture.
