Sustainability and improving quality of life are at the forefront of most of all the world's concerns. Sustainability aims to conserve natural resources and adapt to the environment. While the concept of quality of life refers to human well-being, enjoyment, and comfort, it also reflects individuals' satisfaction with their lives and communities the pursuit of quality of life within urban areas which may sometimes conflict with the principles of sustainability. The research aims to examine similarities and differences between the two concepts. Through empirical study, the efficiency of sustainability performance and individuals' satisfaction with the quality of life in different urban patterns is monitored through field visits and photographs, maps and questionnaires, then analysis by SPSS, The study found an inverse relationship between sustainability and quality of life in both of Early and New planned areas. The developed planned areas represent the balance in this relation.
 
 
تعد مجالات الاستدامة وتحسين جودة الحياة هى صدارة اهتمامات العديد من دول العالم وعند دراسة مفهوم الاستدامة نجد أنها تهدف إلى الحفاظ على الموارد الطبيعية لأطول فترة ممكنة والتأقلم مع البيئة، بينما نجد أن مفهوم جودة الحياة يشير إلى رفاهية الإنسان والإستمتاع والراحة، ويعكس مدى رضا الأفراد عن حياتهم ومجتمعاتهم، وقد يتعارض السعى لتحقيق جودة الحياة بداخل المناطق الحضرية أحياناً مع مبادئ الإستدامة، ويهدف البحث إلى دراسة أوجه التشابه والاختلاف بين المفهومين ، ثم من خلال الدراسة التطبيقية يتم رصد كفاءة أداء الاستدامة ورضا الأفراد عن جودة الحياة وذلك من خلال الزيارات الميدانية والصور الفوتوغرافية، الخرائط المساحية، واستبيانات السكان ثم تحليلها بواسطة برنامج التحليل الإحصائى SPSS، وتمكن البحث من تحديد منظومة العناصر المشتركة ما بينهما والتي تم صياغتها بما تم تعريفه باسم أبعاد ومؤشرات جودة الحياة الحضرية المستدامة، وتبين من الدراسة التطبيقية وضوح العلاقة العكسية ما بين جودة الحياة وكفاءة أداء الاستدامة في كل من المناطق التلقائية والحديثة وتعبر مناطق التصميم العمرانى المخطط عن علاقة التوازن في هذه العلاقة
