Mosque architecture is one of the components of cultural heritage that constitutes a large part of the culture and sustainability of Arab and Islamic societies. The research problem lies in the challenges facing contemporary mosque architecture with the multiplicity of architectural ideas and theories that emerged in the twentieth century and the subsequent digital revolution and technological development. Taking inspiration from heritage in designing contemporary mosques is one way of heritage conservation through revivalism in a way that is current with the times. The research aims to monitor the current architectural employment of heritage vocabulary in the design of contemporary mosques and deducing their characteristics. The research came in two axes: The first axis consists of two parts: The first part presents the research introduction, the research procedures, problem, objectives, and hypothesis, the research importance, and the research methodology; the second part introduces the research theoretical framework of the study. The second axis includes applying the descriptive-analytical study approach to selected case studies of contemporary mosques to analyze the approaches of heritage inspiration in design formation. The research contributes to the determination of the design vocabulary inspired by heritage adapted in the design of contemporary mosques, which is considered a valuable resource for researchers and designers while making design decisions for contemporary mosques. This is followed by the research results and recommendations that clarify the understanding of the design vocabulary inspired by heritage and its contemporary implementation to fulfil the functional and spiritual values of mosques.
