Abstract

This research aimed to verify the effectiveness of a program based on sociolinguistics in developing oral communication skills among Arabic language learners who speak other languages at the intermediate level. To achieve this goal, the following experimental treatment tools were prepared: (a list of speaking areas, a list of oral communication skills suitable for Arabic language learners who speak other languages at the intermediate level, preparing the program based on sociolinguistics, a teacher's guide, preparing students' worksheets, an oral communication skills test, and a performance observation card). The research relied on the experimental method - quasi-experimental design - based on a single group. The research sample consisted of (30) female students from intermediate level studies. The pre-application of the oral communication skills test was conducted on them (pre-application), then teaching them according to the program based on sociolinguistics, then re-applying the test to them (post-application). The results of the pre- and post-applications showed statistically significant differences between the average scores of the female students of the research group in the pre- and post-measurements of the oral communication skills test as a whole - and in each skill separately) in favor of the post-measurement, which is This confirms the effectiveness of the program in developing oral communication skills among the research group. The research recommended paying attention to providing situations for oral communication that simulate the life situations that students are exposed to daily, in order to develop their skills.
