The importance of research appears in reducing waste, rational use of water resources, and reducing and preserving sources of pollution of water resources. In light of the scarcity and limitation of water, its current crisis, and expectations of increased demand for it in the future to cover the population's food needs, meeting Egyptian food security requirements is linked to water security in terms of preserving limited water resources and employing them rationally while achieving the best and most sustainable use of them and ensuring the achievement of safe limits of security. Nutritional. The research mainly aims to estimate losses in the hypothetical water balance of food commodity groups (cereals, legumes, sugars, oils, medicinal and aromatic plants, vegetables, fruits, transportation, animal and poultry products) in Egypt during the period (2006-2022). To achieve the objectives of the study, it relied on descriptive and quantitative statistical analysis methods. Virtual water measures the amount of water needed by food products or commodities, which includes both water used to grow crops and raise animals. This study shows virtual water losses in the food balance of major foods produced in Egypt, which enhances opportunities to improve the use and protection of water resources. Therefore, the challenges of water scarcity and virtual water loss require immediate responses through accurate and effective assessment of the use of water resources, in parallel with the application of sustainable agricultural practices. This study demonstrates the importance of improving water management to achieve food security in Egypt.
