The study dealt with Arab and international personal data privacy laws and legislations using the survey method and their impact on the privacy policies of academic libraries in the Arab world and internationally, focusing on the Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020 and showing the extent of agreement and difference between it and the General Regulation for the Protection of Personal Data GDPR of 2016 issued for the European Union. In terms of the conceptual framework of the Personal Data Protection Law, the rights of the person concerned with the data, the terms of processing, and finally the means of enforcing the Personal Data Protection Law, and a study of the privacy policies of academic libraries of Arab and international universities.
According to the countries, the study was divided into Arab data privacy laws, including: the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the Kingdom of Morocco, and Qatar. Globally, it includes: the United States of America, the European Union countries, and the United Kingdom, despite its exit from the European Union on February 1, 2020.
The study arranged the countries under each sector - Arab and international - chronologically from the oldest to the most recent in terms of enactment and enforcement of laws
to end with examples of some privacy protection policies applicable in academic libraries in Arab and global universities.
