Abstract

This paper explores the pivotal role of feasts and Mūlids in shaping and reflecting Egyptian food identity, highlighting a rich tapestry of cultural, social, and historical significance. Feasts such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, alongside various mūlids celebrating significant figures and events, serve as vital occasions for communal gathering, where traditional dishes are prepared and shared. These culinary practices are not only integral to the celebrations but also symbolize Egypt's diverse agricultural heritage and religious customs. The research examines how specific foods—such as fatta, koshari, and feseekh—embody collective memory and cultural identity, providing a lens through which to understand the complexities of modern Egyptian society. In the face of globalization and changing culinary landscapes, the preservation of these traditions emerges as essential for maintaining a sense of belonging and cultural continuity. The paper emphasizes the need for active engagement in safeguarding these culinary practices through media, festivals, and community initiatives, ensuring that future generations can appreciate and celebrate Egypt's vibrant gastronomic heritage.
