Abstract

The wheat crop is one of the most important grain crops in Egypt and is considered a strategic commodity, as Egypt is the largest importer of wheat in the world, and the research problem lies in the fact that Egypt's imports of wheat during the average period (2017-2021) were 3.01 billion dollars, and it was used to import 11.74 billion dollars. One million tons from countries, and Egypt relied on wheat imports from only two countries, Russia and Ukraine, at a rate that represented about 58.6%, 21.49% during the same period referred to, and the most important proposed scenarios were assuming an increase in the amount of domestic production and an increase in the amount of domestic consumption from 9842, 20843 thousand tons in 2021 to 9921, 22834 thousand tons in 2025, respectively, and the amount of imports remained constant at its value in 2021, amounting to 11048 thousand tons. As a result of the above, it is expected that the self-sufficiency rate will decrease from 47.22% in 2021 to reach 43.45% in 2025. And the consumption gap will increase from 11,001 thousand tons in 2021 to reach 12,913 thousand tons in 2025. This is when the imported quantities of wheat are left to be distributed freely among different countries. According to the lowest price according to the export capacity of those countries, it achieved an import cost estimated at about $624.94 million, i.e., a saving estimated at about $2393.76 million.
