Abstract

One hundred twenty five of hen's eggs were examined for the inciden ce of anaerobic microorganisms. 76% of the examined washing solution was found to contain anaerobes, while 55.20% of the examined egg content proved to contain anaerobic microorganisms. Clostridia could be isolated from 53.6% and 31.2% of the examined washing solution and egg contents respectively, while anaerobic cocci could be isolated from 64.8% and 37.6% of the examined samples respectively.
Microscopical and biochemical identification of the isolated Clostridia reveal the presence of Cl.butyricum, Cl.fallax, Cl.lentoputrescens, Cl.paraputrificum and Cl.perfringens in varying percentages. Public health importance of the isolated anaearobes was discussed.
