Abstract

The Symbolist movement emerged in the 1870s and 1880s in some Western European countries, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; The Symbolist movement flourished in the Russian Empire, a movement that abandoned direct simulation of a realistic subjects and opted for new sources of inspiration in different worlds, such as dreams, fairy tales, myths, or themes of a metaphysical nature. This new worldview became a feature of Russia's Silver Age and replaced social realism and the "Wanderers" movement, which could no longer offer any new. Symbolism in Russia developed along the same broad lines as its international equivalents, but it also had a distinctive historical background which to a large degree defined its originality. Although Symbolism initially started as a literary movement, influenced by the works of French Symbolist poets; However, it has developed to include different creative fields, including painting, music, poetry, philosophy, and theater. These fields were integrated in some of the Russian symbolist movement's works, which employed multiple artistic media. Also, important art magazines were published through the movement, covering its activities, and expressing its ideas.
