Abstract

A total of 60 random samples of milk and butter (30 of each) were collected from farms, and public markets in small village in Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. The collected samples were screened for the quantification of organochlorine and organophosphrus pesticide residues by using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry
(GC/MS). Results obtained showed that these insecticides were detected in 42% (25/60) of the total examined samples with prevalence of 47% (14/30) and 37% (11/25) in raw farm bulk cow milk and butter samples, respectively. p,p-DDE (78.5%) was the most significantly present in milk samples followed by Malathion
(71.4%). Values of all detected pesticide residues (Diazinon, Methidathion, Hexachlorobenzene, Lindane, Parathion-Methyl, Heptachlor, Alachlor, Malathion and Dieldrin, Heptachlorepoxide, p,p-DDE and Disulfoton) in examined positive milk samples were exceeded permissible limits (MRL) according to Codex Alimentarius Commission (2004) except Chlorpyrifos which is lower than MRL. While in butter samples, results revealed that Malathion (81.8%) was the most significantly present followed by p,p-DDE(72.7%). And values of all the detected pesticide residues in the positive butter samples were above MRL while Disulfoton, Heptachlor-epoxide and Heptachlor pesticide residues were not detected.
