Abstract

In 2010, soybean (Glycine max Cl. Merr.) in several commercial fields in Upper Egypt (Assiut), exhibited symptoms of web blight on leaves (Fig. 1). Seven isolates of Rhizoctonia solani were obtained from leaves and leaf petioles of diseased soybean plants which collected were tested for pathogenicity to soybean (cv. Giza 22) by artificial inoculation. The pathogenicity tests revealed that two isolates from the seven isolates caused web blight. These isolates were identified as R. solani AG-1 (IA) according to their morphological and cultural characteristics. The present study first reveals that R. solani AG- I (IA) causes web blight of soybean in Egypt.
