Abstract

There is no doubt that the indicative panels or marking systems with symbolic values indicating an important component in the design solutions of buildings that have functional values and at the same time are promising with z a prominent hope in the integration of design aspects in architectural, interior and performance aspects. These systems also activate expressive and communicative values between the building and its institutional identity and its users on the one hand, and enhance its sustainability on the other. The research questions came implicitly. Do Saudi hospitals use integrated design guidelines to clarify health services for the community concerned with these services? What is the extent of the response of the community concerned with health services, and decision-making by administrators, to the extension systems used? What are the procedures followed by hospital departments to improve the performance of these advisory systems and their impact on the sustainability of hospital interior design?  Hence, the main objective of this research was to highlight the importance of integrated extension systems in Saudi hospitals and to improve their performance efficiency and ways to improve them. And that is through a methodology that included field observations, questionnaires and interviews, as well as developing a design proposal for a set of signs and guidelines that took into account the architectural and interior design and the institutional identity of a major hospital in Riyadh. The prominent conclusion of this research is that it is considered an actual step towards activating the use of extension systems in public and private service institutions, particularly hospitals in Saudi Arabia.
