Abstract

Educators have taken into account the individual differences among students, and over the past years efforts have been focused on examining and providing the appropriate conditions for individual education as one of the solutions to take into account the individual differences in education. All individuals are capable of learning, provided that different teaching methods are available and appropriate for their abilities and aptitudes.
As there are differences between individuals in the physical growth, motivation, the expression of emotions, and many other aspects of behavior, there are also individual differences in achievement. The individual characteristics that appear in a situation may affect achievement. Despite the current era is that of information and computers, psychologists' attention to abilities necessary for this important technological activity is not at the same level of importance. Today, education has become a continuous endless process, so, there is a necessity to transform teaching methods to meet expectations and keep educational process continuity. Education that depended at first on direct face-to-face learning environment, occurs now in an environment led by computers and digital technologies.
Learning through virtual learning environments is a way to reach the largest number of students, independent of time and space constraints. Virtual learning environments developers should be able to analyze students' characteristics, which include: students' scientific and skill level identification, the identification of behavioral patterns and skills needed to start learning, the distinction of students' general characteristics which has great importance, as it enables developers to develop environments, courses and electronic materials in a manner commensurate with students' needs, and the identification of learners' characteristics of mental, social, environmental sides, previous experience, or chronological age. The present paper presents some psychological variables related to virtual learning environments and the attitudes towards it, as well as motivation and anxiety associated with dealing with computer and success in virtual learning environments.
