Abstract

Sixty-five FS taba bean (Viera !aba L.) Egyptian breeding lines. were evaluated
for resistance to cowpea aphid. Aphis craccivO(a Koch infestation throughout three
successive seasons 1998199 to 200012001 under field conditions. Results showed
that the two entries 818/923/92 and 657/1574192 were found to be resistanlltolerant
to aphid infestation. in spite of the severe infestation seasons of rabe bear.
plantation in Mioele Egypt. 'These two lines also tMded to combine high yielding
ability. Most at the variations in yield components of raba bean varieties was
attributable to the size of A. creootvorĀ« infestation. Resistant entries outyielded
susceptible varieties and also much less affected by the presence of large numbers
of aphids.
