Green tea aqueous extract (GAE) and thyme aqueous extract (TAE) are natural plant extracts having high anti-oxidative effects. This study was designed to evaluate the protective efficacy of GAE and TAE against the hepatotoxicity- induced by imidacloprid (IMI) in male albino rats. Treated group received IMI in the diet at 450 ppm (equivalent to 1/10 LD50) for 3 months. Significant increases in serum TC, TG, LDL-C and VLDL-C levels were recorded while serum HDL-C level was reduced. Serum total protein and albumin did not show any significant changes. Histopathological examination of liver revealed vacuolar degeneration of hepatocytes. Coadministration of either GAE or TAE with IMI ameliorated the IMI- induced hepatotoxicity as evidenced by restoring normal serum lipid profile and histological architecture of liver.
