Imaging techniques are powerful tools in forensic medicine. Medicolegal examiners and forensic radiologists are required to interpret findings from imaging studies for further medicolegal investigations. Radiological techniques including ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used in medicolegal investigations involving blunt abdominal traumatic injuries. With introduction of recent advances of these imaging modalities and ability of multi-planar reformations, it helps in obtaining accurate diagnosis, differentiating between traumatic and pathological causes, follow up of victims, detection of the cause of death that may eliminate the need for traditional autopsy.
