Endothelial dysfunction and increased UAER (Urinary Albumin Excretion Rate) may indicate macroangiopathy as well as microangiopathy. The objective of this study is to clarify the relation between UAER and other cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes. Diabetics with and without increased UAER were compared regarding glycemic control, C- peptide, scrum lipids and renal functions. UAER proved to be strongly associated with dyslipidemia and poor glycemic control making microalbuminuria a good early marker for general vascular damage.
