Abstract

This study was conducted on 20 type 2 diabetics and 10 controls in order to study a relationship between capillary blood flow and capillary blood glucose comparing high risk areas “toes” with low risk areas “fingers” of complications. It was found that capillary blood glucose was significantly higher in toes of diabetic patients than their fingers and that microvascular reactivity is more impaired especially in the toes of complicated patients when compared to their fingers. Therefore, it was concluded that there may be an association (a combined cause/effect relationship) between capillary blood glucose, being higher in toes than fingers and the diabetic complications being more common in the feet than hands of diabetic patients.
