Any part of the eye may be affected in arthritic diseases. For example, rheumatoid arthritis causes dry eye with corneal and scleral affection. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by anterior uveitis. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a multisystem affection with eye involvement in the form of scleritis, keratitis and neuro-ophthalmic involvement. Sarcoidosis is often accompanied by chorioretinitis. Behçet’s disease is characterized by a triad of recurrent oral ulcers, genital ulcers, skin lesions and ocular manifestations mainly iritis and retinal vasculitis. Conjunctivitis is the most frequent ocular finding in lyme disease while anterior uveitis is the commonest finding in Seronegative spondyloarthropathies. Polyarteritis nodosa is characterized by retinal vasculitis. Treatment is usually medical and surgery is reserved for complications.
