Carotid atherosclerosis mirror general atherosclerosis. Studies showed that carotid stenosis is high in patients with peripheral arterial disease. Our study was done upon 100 patients had been admitted to vascular surgery units and showed low prevalence of carotid disease. However, intracranial stenosis is more frequently present in peripheral arterial disease patients. This points to importance of duplex ultrasound to screen for carotid stenosis in patients with peripheral arterial disease.
