Dynamic hip screw is widely used for treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur. Its success rate is high and complication rate is low, so long as the lag screw is carefully placed. Baumgaertner devised the concept of (TAD). This measurement, in millimeters, is the sum of the distances from the tip of the lag screw to the apex of the femoral head on both the AP and lateral radiographic views and it should be <25mm to minimize the risk of lag screw cutout. This study was conducted on 51 patients with the aim of evaluating the effect of introduction of (TAD) concept on management of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur and predicting failure of fixation.
