The birth of an infant with ambiguous genitalia can cause great apprehension for the family as well as for healthcare providers. Timely and appropriate gender assignment is necessary for healthy physical and psychologic development of the child with ambiguous genitalia. Imaging modalities plays a conclusive role for demonstration of genital anatomy. Imaging modalities include genitography, ultrasonography (US), and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.MR imaging superior in tissue characterization, since it is useful in morphologic evaluation of mullerian duct structures, the gonads, and the development of the phallus because of the excellent soft-tissue contrast achieved with this modality and its multiplanar capability.
