Abstract

Spontaneous miscarriage occurs in about 11—20% of clinical pregnancies. In this study 40 pregnant women with the diagnosis of missed abortion with gestational age not more than 12 weeks had received 800 mcg vaginal misoprostol and further doses of 400 mcg vaginal misoprostol were allowed every 3 hours till expulsion of the uterine content or a maximum of 3 doses. Surgical evacuation is indicated if sever vaginal bleeding occurs or complete evacuation is not confirmed 3 hours after the 3rd dose.24 women had a complete abortion, 12 women had incomplete abortion and 4 had no response to misoprostol so the over all success rate in this study is 60%.The use of vaginal misoprostol is an effective and acceptable method of medical abortion.
