Platelets are important in arresting bleeding from damaged blood vessels. Normal platelet function can be divided into: adhesion, aggregation, secretion, and expression of procoagulant activity. Disorders of platelet function can be divided into congenital and acquired origin. Transfusion of normal platelets to treat clinical bleeding due to functional platelet disorder, with other therapeutic agents as desmospressin, recombinant factor VIIa has also been used effectively. several methods to study neonatal platelet function have been applied .New agents as recombinant thrombopoietin and recombinant FVIIa enhance neonatal platelet function
