Abstract

Anemia is the most common medical disorder during pregnancy, having its adverse effects on the mother and the fetus.It is is a widespread public health problem associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality, especially in pregnant women Globally almost half of pregnant women and close to one third of non pregnant women suffer from anemia.Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of maternal iron deficiency anemia on neonatal hemoglobin )through sampling of cord blood( and neonatal outcome (neonatal weight , length and ponderal index )ResultsThe present study shows that maternal iron deficiency anemia affect neonatal hemoglobin but not in a statistically significant way and only affects neonatal outcome ( neonatal weight, length and Ponderal index) in moderate and severe anemia.
