Abstract

The affection of bones, ligaments and muscles of the female athletes practicing martial arts is both local and systemic. In relation to systemic effects estrogen plays an important role in keeping good Bone Mineral Density (BMD), both estrogen and progesterone increase ligaments laxity increasing tissue injury potential. Female Athlete Triad is a combination of disordered eating, amennorhea and osteoporosis. Treatment includes lifestyle change, attaining proper weight and hormone replacement therapy in some cases. Overtraining syndrome is a serious problem. Treatment includes proper periodization of training, adequate sleep, adequate nutrition and therapeutic excercises. An analysis of the problems active female face mentioned that anterior cruciate ligaments injuries, patellofemoral disorders, shoulder and foot injuries are the most common sites of injuries. Once injury happens rehabilitation should start early and properly, A proper rehabilitation program for athletes must include Acute phase, Restorative phase and finally Reintegration phase.
