Abstract

Limb length discrepancy result from processes that cause eitherasymmetric shortening or lengthening of bone and may be staticor dynamic in nature. Shortening can result from an alteration inbone length as occurs following a fracture with overlappingbone ends or angulations. Alternatively, shortening may occurfrom an interference with bone growth as classically occurs afteran epihyseal injury or infection in which case shortening by acombination of methods and, as a consequence, can lead torather dramatic discrepancies. Limb length inequality can alsoresult from overgrowth of an extremity like in chronicosteomyelitis, juvenile arthritis, or trauma, which invokes aprolonged hyperaemic state that presumably stimulates bone .
