Abstract

This study included 13 patients with post cholecystectomy bile duct injuries, 11 were females and 2 were males. The ages of the patients ranged between 20 and 65 years. Three patients were diagnosed intra-operatively while ten patients were diagnosed in the post operative period. The three patients diagnosed intra-operatively were managed immediately either with primary repair on a T-tube, or with an immediate hepaticojejunostomy. Patients presenting post operatively were assessed through a thorough history taking and complete physical examination, in addition to complete laboratory work-up. Abdominal ultrasound was done as a routine primary investigation for all patients. Together with other investigations as ERCP, PTC, MRCP, HIDA scan and T-tube cholangiography were done postoperatively for follow up. Six patients were managed by non-surgical treatment through ERCP or US guided drainage. Four patients were managed by surgical correction of their biliary stricture by a Roux-en Y hepaticojejunostomy. Short term results were satisfactory in general, there was a single mortality.
