Abstract

Astrocytoma is one of the most common brain tumors. The present studywas done on 48 cases of astrocytic tumors classified according to the WHOclassification into grades I,II,III and IV. The age incidence ranged from 2.5 upto 65 years. In the studied cases the male gender constituted 60.42%, whilefemale gender constituted 39.58% of cases. The least mean cyclin D1 LI wasexpressed in grade I astrocytomas (0.39), while the highest was in grade IVastrocytomas (25.15). In between lie grade II astrocytoma with mean LI of(3.53) and grade III (14.05). A highly significant correlation was found betweenCyclin D1 expression and patient's age. Cyclin D1 expression is higher inpatients above 40 years of age. Cyclin D1 expression was higher in males thanin females, this result was highly significant.
