Breast cancer is the most common female cancer. Effective local control is essential. Modern radiotherapy techniques for breast cancer have been developed to improve the delivery of radiation and to decrease normal tissue toxicity, dose inhomogeneity, shorten the duration of breast irradiation and treat a portion of the breast instead of the whole. Some of these techniques have mature data and others still have clinical data. This essay is a review of literature concerned with modern radiotherapy techniques used in breast cancer i.e 3DCRTH, IMRT, partial breast irradiation and proton beam therapy.
