The liver and nutrition are closely related, as the liver plays an important role in metabolism of different nutrients, so that most liver diseases are usually associated with a variety of metabolic abnormalities and different degrees of malnutrition which requires frequent regular nutritional assessment for its detection. Nutritional therapy is a respectable aspect in the management of liver disease and may be the cornerstone in the treatment, as in case of some metabolic diseases e.g. glactosemia. Also, nutritional therapy improves the prognosis of liver transplantation. One aspect of nutritional therapy is the herbal therapy which showed promising effects in the treatment of liver diseases. On the other side malnutrition may injure the liver and causes liver damage which must be detected and properly managed.
