Abstract

Inflammation is a critical protective reaction of irritation, injury or infection, characterized by redness, heat, swelling, Loss of function and pain. The role of inflammatory pain in this protective process is to prevent further trauma to the already injured tissue. Lowered threshold for stimulation induced pain is referred to as hyperalgesia which is thought to be produced by inflammatory mediators so we are aiming to discuss the different peripheral mechanisms of inflammatory pain to provide approaches to the discovery of novel analgesics that act selectively on peripheral structures.
