MRI is an expensive investigation modality, not available to every urologist. To assess its value, we reviewed the literature on MRI used in urology. The use of MRI for patients with renal failure and/or impairment or contrast allergy is beyond emphasis. In renal artery stenosis, it can replace angiography with all its risks. MRI can detect the pseudocapsule in renal cell carcinoma better than any other modality. For assessment of bladder cancer invasion and spread, MRI can replace 2 or more investigations. Other uses are also reviewed.
