Abstract

This study aimed to assess the prevalence of asympotomatic urethritis among a group of 250 patients with history of primary infertility. 50 patients with positive two glass urine test were examined for the presence of Chlamydia by using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The results showed that: 15/50 urethritis positive patients were PCR positive for Chlamydia. The mean sperm count demonstrated significant decrease in Chlamydia positive patients compared with Chlamydia negative patients. The mean sperm motility percent demonstrated significant decrease in Chlamydia positive patients compared with Chlamydia negative patients. It is concluded that Chlamydia trachomatis may have an etiological role in infertility by altering sperm count and motility.
