Abstract
Post phlebitic limb is well known medical problem commonly affecting middle aged patients. It has hazardous impact on the community income, patients moral and financial aspects of life.The problem of post phlebitic syndrome is due to incompetent perforator veins and increase ambulatory venous pressure.Our study included 20 patients (limbs) with post phlebitic limb. The range of age was 25 to 72 years with a mean age 39 years. The left side was affected more than 40% of cases right side while bilateral affection in 60% of cases. Clinically all patients were admitted with leg ulcers. Duplex scanning showed no deep venous system occlusion in 4 & partial deep venous obstruction in 16 patients and all patients showed incompetent venous perforators. Subfascial ligation of perforator veins showed marked improvement or clinical conditions of the patient.Follow up of the patients complete healing of ulcers in patients with no deep venous thrombosis but patients with partial obstruction of deep system showed healing of ulcers in 37.5%, recurrence of ulcers in 25% of cases and unhealed ulcers in 37.5% of cases.
