Retinotomies and Retinectomy are helpful surgical techniques in the management of complex cases of retinal detachment. The retina may be intentionally cut or excised for several purposes , namely internal drainage of subretinal fluid (drainage retinotomy), to gain access to the subretinal space or to relax a shortened contracted retina (relaxing retinotomy).
