Twenty five cases of craniopharyngioma operated upon in a period of approximately 2 years.. Total excision was achieved in 64% (confirmed by postoperative imaging), subtotal in 28%, partial in 8%. Total mortality was 16%. One patient received stereotactic radiosurgery. Results compared favorably with the literature, suggesting that total excision of the tumor is possible with advanced microsurgical and radiological techniques and allows good outcome in terms of quality of life. Earlier diagnosis of the tumor is required to minimize the damage of the sensitive structures surrounding the tumor and to facilitate the surgical procedure.
