An early diagnosis of sepsis in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis is crucial and could save lives. We studied serum C- reactive protein and interlenkin-6 to find out how useful these might be for identifying sepsis.30 patients with DKA had symptoms and signs of SIRS were enrolled were classified into group A 18 patients with out any clinical or bacteriological evidence of sepsis, group B 12 patients with infection probed by clinical and or bacteriological Examination. C-reactive protein and interleukin 6 were measured on admission and when patients had clinically improved and were euglycaemic. We detected significance rise in serum interleukin-6 in patients infected compared by patients not infected with systemic informatory response syndrome this wasn’t with C- reactive protein, while there was a prompt reduction of both after remission. So we suggest that interleukin 6 ray be used as a marker of sepsis as on etiological factoring systemic inflammatory response syndrome associated with diabetic ketoacidosis.
