This our study was conducted on 30 patients complaining of lower urinary tract symptoms caused by BPH, their ages ranged from 50 to 71 years, these patients attended the Outpatient Clinic of Urology during 2002-2003. They were subjected to full urological and neurological examinations and investigations to calculate IPS with exclusion of those patients with absolute indications of surgical intervention e.g. acute retention of urine, recurrent gross hematuria, associated stone bladder and impaired renal function caused by BPH. IPSS then recalculated are week later (IPSS rescore) to judge the reliability of IPSS. The aim of our study to evaluate the reliability and validity of IPSS in Egyptian males complaining of BPH. From our study, we found that IPSS is both valid and reliable for assessment of LUTs of BPH with significant correlation with quality of life and most of urodynamic parameters. We also found that some symptoms e.g. urge incontinence and sexual activity with BPH are not addressed by IPSS inspite of their bothersomness and impact on the quality of life of BPH patients. We also found a big difficulty in answering the question No. 8 (quality of life) by the patients when this question has multiple answers which is difficult to understand with a little variation in between.
