Abstract

Osteoporosis is a disease of bone characterized by a reduction in bone mass that is caused by an imbalance between bone formation and bone resorption. It is a very common clinical problem in our population. There are many risk factors for developing osteoporosis like smoking, high alcohol consumption, corticosteroid therapy …………etc. As fractures are the clinical complication of osteoporosis, so the goal is to prevent the first fracture by detecting osteoporosis in its early stages. In the recent years, new tests are used to evaluate osteoporosis especially in its early stages. One of these tests is the detection of the pro-peptide domains released during bone formation. Another marker is the pyridinium cross links of collagen released during bone resorption.
