Abstract

Congenital anterior glottic web is a rare congenital laryngeal anomaly constitute about 5% of all congenital anomalies of the larynx and result in a major vocal handicap. Symptoms of laryngeal webs are present at birth in 75% of patients and within 1 year in all patients. The diagnosis of glottic web is based on history and endoscopic investigations. Many treatment modalities have been reported either endoscopic or external techniques. This study included 27 patients with symptomaticglottic web. The patients complained of hoarseness and /or respiratory distresswere selected from outpatients ENT clinic in Aborish-Hospital from September 2012 to April 2013. The patients were divided into two groups; group (A) and group (B). In group (A) there were 15 patients (56%) with thin glottic web subjected to endoscopic procedure. While in group (B) 12 patients (44%) with thick glottic web subjected to open surgery. The conclusion is the combination of minimally invasive endoscopic excision of the thin glottic web with Mitomycin -C application , and laryngofissure with insertion of a keel with tracheotomy for the thick web patients , may provide satisfactory results, an immediate patent airway, so the patient can be decanulated within weeks with satisfactory voice
