Abstract

Many concepts are developed that go beyond justmyomas as estrogen and progesterone responsive tumorsthrough knowledge that these tumors are responsive todifferent peptide growth factors. New concepts are suggestedthat, the gene HMG1C and a related gene HMGl Y have beenidentified as pathogenic factors in these tumors. However, it isoften accepted that fibroids cause a variety of reproductiveproblems, such as menorrhagia, pain, infertility, pregnancyloss and pregnancy complications. The most commonpresenting symptoms associated with \fibroids and the one thatmost frequently leads to surgical intervention is menorrhagiawhich is reportedly present in one third of women undergoingmyomectomy.
