Abstract

HCV is a major public health problem in Egypt and angiogenesis plays apathogenic role in HCV-induced liver damage. This study aimed at evaluatingVEGF isoforms 165 and 121 in both serum and liver tissue. VEGF 121 wasnot detected at all. VEGF 165 did not show a significant relation with HCVhepaticdisease progression except for its serum level with splenomegaly ,however, at least third of the studied patients overexpressed VEGF165 in theirliver tissue who may be candidate for antiVEGF165 therapy. There was poorcorrelation between its detection in sera and liver tissue but its serum test maybe considered a good negative test.
