Cataract surgery has undergone an enormous advances in techniques, technologies and machinery during the past several years. Phacoemulsification technique was a breakthrough in cataract surgery during the 20th century. Ultrasound phacoemulsification is a very successful procedure nowadays showing continuous and rapid innovations surgical techniques and technologies. However, it requires a considerable skill, relatively longer learning curve than conventional techniques for cataract extraction and still have some drawbacks as endothelial trauma and corneal wound burns.Over the last few years, scientists and investigators have been struggling to search for alternative energy sources to ultrasound for cataract surgery. Several methods have been investigated but non of them showed to be efficient enough for cataract surgery as ultrasound phacoemulsification.
