Abstract
Aging is a biological process characterized by progressive inevitable evolution and maturation of an organism until death. Earlier studies suggested that diminution in esophageal function was a relatively common feature with aging. The term presbyesophagus was coined to describe age related changes in esophageal function including decrease contractile amplitude, polyphasic waves in the esophageal body, incomplete relaxation of lower esophageal sphincter and esophageal dilatation. The aim of this essay is to throw light on the effect of aging on gastrointestinal tract.
