Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the study is to evaluate LASEK technique and it’s efficiency when compared with standard corneal photorefractive procedures; PRK and LASIK.Setting:Department of ophthalmology, cairo university, Cairo, Egypt 2002Methods:A review was done for literature describing the LASEK technique regarding patient selection and preparation, surgical steps, postoperative follow up and outcome. Conclusion:LASEK safely and effectively treated eyes with low to moderate myopia. It reduced the incidence of significant postoperative pain and corneal haze and faster visual recovery than PRK.LASEK may prevent flap related complications, epithelial ingrowth, and ectasia associated with LASIK.However, long term evaluation is needed and further investigation is needed to minimize alcohol epitheliotoxicity.
